Remember how frustrating it was when someone told you to clean up your room while growing up? Remember how much you fought it and complained and resited? Now, do you remember afterward? How much better it felt having a clean space. How energized and calm you felt being in a place free of dirt and trash.

Hopefully, you've instilled that lesson in yourself about your own home now that you've grown up. But the lesson you learned from that doesn't have to stop at your home. You can extend that feeling to the environment around you. Number nine on our "10 Ways to Grow More Good" list is about cleaning up your local environment.

Here's a situation most of us will be familiar with: You're casually walking down the street to run an errand or meet up with a friend when suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, a plastic bag is picked up by a gust of wind and blown into your path. Usually, there's a moment of hesitation, Should I pick that up?, What if it's covered in mud or dirt, or worse?, Why hasn't someone picked this up yet?!

But if you want to do something that will grow more around the world (and we know you do!), don't step over it. Pick it up and put it in the recycling or the garbage!

To go further, join a local clean-up crew in your neighborhood. Clean-up crews are usually easy to join up with through social media. If your community doesn't have one, start your own! Clean-up crews are a great way to keep your neighborhood clean and meet your neighbors in the process.
